Dr. Scott Kottemann

Orthodontist

Dr. Scott Kottemann has always been drawn to orthodontics. Before he was even old enough to drive a car, he loved to spend time in the lab making retainers and other orthodontic appliances for the family practice.

From there, he moved on to editing and creating 3D models of teeth for a tech start-up.

Realizing that the future of orthodontics was headed in a digital direction, Dr. Scott attended the University of Notre Dame where he studied Biology and graduated Summa Cum Laude before heading to the University of Michigan.

During his time there, he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, was chosen to receive a grant to research cell signaling, was elected a council member and graduated second in his class.

In addition to his work at Kottemann Orthodontics, Dr. Scott was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota for 6 years, teaching the orthodontic residents their clinical skills and lecturing on various orthodontic topics.

As a resident, the part-time faculty were crucial to his education, and he enjoys being able to give back to the U of M in this way.

Dr. Scott approaches every patient with a fresh set of eyes and ideas and puts his whole heart into perfecting a customized treatment plan for each that will offer optimal results. Nothing makes him happier than seeing a patient smile for the first time after finishing their treatment!

Dr. Scott’s family and practice are hugely important to him, and he works tirelessly to keep the reputation and legacy Kottemann Orthodontics has built over the years.

It’s important to Dr. Scott to spread smiles wherever he can, and he has supported Smiles Change Lives since he became an orthodontist. The organization works with underprivileged children to provide orthodontic treatment free of charge.

Outside the Office

After living in Indiana, San Diego, Michigan, and even Australia, Dr. Scott came back home to Minnesota. The cold winters don’t have anything on the beautiful parks, incredible schools, and family-centered culture found in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Scott loves to explore with his camera in his spare time. On the weekends, he spends time with his wife Camille and their two daughters. Dr. Scott also enjoys biking around Minneapolis and discovering new restaurants with his family. In the warm days of summer, he enjoys wakeboarding and wakesurfing, while downhill skiing keeps him busy during the winter.

Dr. Scott’s grandfather was a big influence on him, teaching him the importance of friendship, humility, and always putting your best foot forward. He works to embody these lessons every day.

It may not seem like orthodontics can be life-changing for patients but often times, it is. The personal transformation that I see on a daily basis is what makes being an orthodontist such an incredible experience. We see a huge variety of patients from all ages and ethnicities, and the diversity of care makes each patient experience that much more enjoyable and unique. As a family practice, we try to make each patient feel like they are at home and not at the orthodontic office. Our team has embraced this approach and their warmness is noticeable the minute you walk through the door.
